…And In With The New

So I finished my first day at the new job. Interestingly, it wasn’t particularly stressful or anything, but I think that’s partly because my brain still hasn’t switched gears. It was more like I was just spending a day sitting at a new desk, and everything would be back to normal tomorrow. Well, when tomorrow gets here I’ll be sitting at that desk again, so we’ll see what happens then…

Out With The Old…

This has been one of the most emotionally draining days of my life. Today I said goodbye to the people with whom I have spent 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for over a decade. I’ve certainly spent more time with them than I have my own family and friends during that time. Patti organized a going away lunch for me, and the turnout nearly pushed me over the edge. I think nearly half the company showed up. It made me feel good and yet incredibly sad. I finally cut and ran at about 2:00 — I simply couldn’t take any more. It’ll probably take the whole weekend just to get my brain functional again. Wish I would have taken an extra week off between…oh well…

Practice Makes Perf…errrr…Mediocre

Over the last week, I’ve spent as much of my free time as possible trying to occupy my mind, lest I lapse into complete insanity over the move to a new job. I’ve had limited success with the sanity thing, but I’ve gotten to practice a lot with my camera. Between a couple cookouts and several afternoon sojourns to the pool, I’ve taken a couple thousand shots in the last 10 days. It’s been mixed bag of modest success, frustration, learning, and like the proverbial blind squirrel, I found an occasional gem amongst the dregs. My biggest failing right now is really nailing the focus on shots. I hit one just right now and then, but mostly there’s just enough softness to piss me off. Anyway, here are a couple of my more successful shots. I’m expecting Christian to be in a lot more of my shots — that kid can’t take a bad picture…

In any case, if you’re so inclined, I put up a bunch of the pics I’ve taken over on my SkyDrive page.

Big Changes In Store For Me

Just realized it’s been three weeks since I posted anything. This is partly because all I’ve been doing is taking pictures and working, but also because I’ve had a ton of things on my mind as well as on my plate. There are some big changes occurring for me. After 13 years of service and weeks of agonizing, I put in my two-week notice at ProCard today. For many reasons, I just feel like it’s time to move on, and I have an opportunity to move to a job that will give me more of a chance to grow and learn, something that hasn’t happened at work for me in years. I guess only time will tell whether this is a jump into a greener pasture or one from the frying pan into the fire. I’m scared to death, but excited at the same time. My last day at ProCard is June 24th, I start the new gig on June 27th. No rest for the wicked.
